====== Void Creatures ====== Void Creatures are not tameable; they are spawned NPCs that mutate in place into stronger forms along one of three branching evolution chains. Donation pets, bioengineered pets, the pet workshop and custom tamable systems do not use this mechanic and are covered on their own pages (''donation-pets'', ''bioengineering'', ''pet-workshop'', ''custom-tamables''). ===== System Overview ===== Every Void Creature belongs to one of three evolution chains: **Killing**, **Grouping**, or **Survival**. A freshly spawned creature begins at Stage 0 with no chain locked in. It schedules its first mutation check 30-120 minutes after spawn (the exact delay is rolled randomly within that window). Void Creatures are always flagged as murderers. ==== Evolution Triggers ==== A creature can mutate through one of three paths: ^ Trigger ^ Branch ^ Notes ^ | Periodic tick after the mutation timer expires | Survival (default fallback) | Skipped once the creature reaches Stage 3 | | Two or more eligible buddies within range 12 tiles | Grouping | All eligible buddies mutate at the same time | | The void creature kills a player or any other creature | Killing | Whenever the void creature lands the killing blow, the Killing branch is triggered | The requested branch is honored only at Stage 0. From Stage 1 onward the creature is locked to its current chain and continues along it regardless of which trigger fires. Mutation is skipped if the creature is dead, deleted, or already at Stage 3. On a successful mutation the next-stage creature replaces the current one at the same location, inheriting its home point and roaming range. If the creature was placed by a spawner, the spawner's slot is updated in place so the new form remains owned by it. ==== Ortanord Spawn ==== Each mutation event includes two independent **5% rolls** to spawn an **Ortanord** near the mutating creature, for a combined ~9.75% chance per mutation and up to two possible spawns. The Ortanord appears within ±5 tiles on a valid tile with a lightning bolt effect. ==== Range Sensitivity ==== Creatures in the Killing chain, and any Stage 3 creature regardless of chain, remain active even when no players are nearby. They continue to think and to mutate. Other Void Creatures sleep when no players are in range. ==== Drops on Death ==== Beyond each stage's own loot, all Void Creatures share two chain-wide drops: * **Void Essence**: drops at ''0.02 * (Stage + 3)'' from Stage 1 onward — 8% at Stage 1, 10% at Stage 2, 12% at Stage 3. * **Void Core**: 12% chance, Stage 3 only. ===== Evolution Chains ===== The Stage 0 starter is shared across all chains: **Korpre** is the only Stage 0 Void Creature and is the entry point for all three branches. Further mutations follow that chain regardless of which trigger fires. * **Killing trigger fires on any kill.** The Killing branch is triggered whenever the void creature lands a killing blow on a player or any other creature. This makes Killing the easiest branch to enter when the void creature is actively in combat. * **No XP, no kill count, no cost.** Mutation is a one-shot transition. There is no leveling buffer, kill counter, or item requirement — only the timer (30-120 minutes from spawn) and whichever trigger condition is met. * **Some resistance values stack.** Betballem ends up with Fire resistance 100, and Anzuanord ends up with Physical resistance 100, because of repeated resistance assignments in their spawn templates. These appear to be unintended carry-overs from earlier versions of the templates. * **Two Ortanord rolls per mutation.** Each mutation rolls 5% twice, giving a combined ~9.75% chance per mutation, and it is possible (though rare) to spawn two Ortanords at once. * **Void Essence drop scaling.** ''0.02 * (Stage + 3)'' from Stage 1 onward: 8% / 10% / 12%. Void Core is 12% at Stage 3 only. * **Not tameable.** No Void Creature can be tamed by a player. They are wild NPCs, not pets.
