Void Creatures

Void Creatures are not tameable; they are spawned NPCs that mutate in place into stronger forms along one of three branching evolution chains.

Donation pets, bioengineered pets, the pet workshop and custom tamable systems do not use this mechanic and are covered on their own pages (donation-pets, bioengineering, pet-workshop, custom-tamables).

System Overview

Every Void Creature belongs to one of three evolution chains: Killing, Grouping, or Survival. A freshly spawned creature begins at Stage 0 with no chain locked in. It schedules its first mutation check 30-120 minutes after spawn (the exact delay is rolled randomly within that window).

Void Creatures are always flagged as murderers.

Evolution Triggers

A creature can mutate through one of three paths:

The requested branch is honored only at Stage 0. From Stage 1 onward the creature is locked to its current chain and continues along it regardless of which trigger fires.

Mutation is skipped if the creature is dead, deleted, or already at Stage 3. On a successful mutation the next-stage creature replaces the current one at the same location, inheriting its home point and roaming range. If the creature was placed by a spawner, the spawner's slot is updated in place so the new form remains owned by it.

Ortanord Spawn

Each mutation event includes two independent 5% rolls to spawn an Ortanord near the mutating creature, for a combined ~9.75% chance per mutation and up to two possible spawns. The Ortanord appears within ±5 tiles on a valid tile with a lightning bolt effect.

Range Sensitivity

Creatures in the Killing chain, and any Stage 3 creature regardless of chain, remain active even when no players are nearby. They continue to think and to mutate. Other Void Creatures sleep when no players are in range.

Evolution Chains

The Stage 0 starter is shared across all chains: Korpre is the only Stage 0 Void Creature and is the entry point for all three branches. The branch is chosen by whichever trigger fires first against a Stage 0 Korpre.

Stats do not scale on an existing creature. Each stage has its own fixed stat block; the mutation simply replaces the current creature with a freshly created next-stage instance.
