Dungeon Overlords & Demigods

Dungeon Overlords are end-game encounter bosses summoned at fixed altars placed in the shard's dungeons. Every Overlord carries a flat 5% chance of being promoted on spawn to a Demigod variant with four-times stats, additional resists, a unique title, and a guaranteed set of premium drops. Visual body, AI, and dungeon flavour are randomised each time a boss is summoned.

The Overlord encounter uses three pieces:

  • Dungeon Boss Altar – the summon point. A locked, non-movable altar configured to a single dungeon.
  • Set of Overlord Skulls – a cursed, weight-1 summoning item tied to a specific dungeon.
  • The Overlord – the boss mobile spawned at the altar.

To start the fight, drag a matching Set of Overlord Skulls onto a Dungeon Boss Altar. If the skull's dungeon does not match the altar, you receive the message “These skulls must be returned to their home.” On a match the altar locks itself, recolours to a fire hue, plays a fire pentagram effect, and after 5 seconds spawns the Overlord at the altar's location. The boss is bound to home within a 15-tile range of the altar.

The altar stays locked until the boss dies. On death it deletes any orphan summoner item, restores its original hue, and unlocks, ready to be used again.

Sets of Overlord Skulls reach players two ways:

  • Dungeon combat drops. Any creature killed by a player inside a dungeon region (including Despise) has roughly a 1-in-3001 chance per kill to drop a randomly-typed Set of Overlord Skulls. Peerless bosses, champion bosses, and Overlords themselves do not roll for this drop. With the Better Loot perk active, or while inside an instanced dungeon, the drop chance is significantly boosted and the drop becomes three skulls instead of one.
  • Donation reward. A Pile of Overlord Skulls storage key can be purchased for 100 donation tokens.

A freshly-rolled Set of Overlord Skulls picks one of the 18 dungeon types at random. Skulls can be stacked by type into the Pile of Overlord Skulls or Pile of Overlord Skulls (Enhanced) storage keys, both of which provide a slot for all 18 dungeon types.

There are 18 dungeon altar/skull types:

Additional combat traits:

  • Always flagged as a murderer.
  • Auto-dispels summoned creatures (100% chance).
  • Bard-immune; cannot be provoked or calmed.
  • Immune to Deadly poison and weaker.
  • Fame title is hidden.

When the Overlord dies it plays one randomly-selected death effect from: Frozen Air Explode, Hell Explode, Holy Explode, Meteor Explode, Dark Tide Explode, Dark Water Ripple, or Hell Air Explode.

The death also scatters gold piles in a 3-tile radius (100-500 gold each, with sound and particle effects about half the time) and frees the altar for re-summoning.

  • Base loot pack: SuperBoss x1.
  • Per qualifying looter the boss additionally drops:
    • One randomly-generated armor, shield, weapon, or jewelry piece, reforged with luck values 500-1300. Luck is doubled while the looter has the Better Loot perk active.
    • One Crystal of Enhancement. With Better Loot active this becomes a second Crystal of Enhancement plus an extra custom gear drop pass.
    • One additional custom gear drop pass.
  • Champion-tier roll: each qualifying looter also rolls on the same rare-deed and slayer-deed pool as champion spawns.
  • Epic drop roll: each qualifying looter has a 2% chance to receive an Epic item. The Double Epic Chance perk doubles the base chance; Better Loot adds another +1%.

Each Overlord, on spawn, has a flat 5% chance to be promoted to a Demigod. Promotion changes the boss in the following ways:

  • Stats are scaled 4x:
    • Strength: 3600-4000
    • Dexterity: 500-540
    • Intelligence: 4000-4800
    • Hit Points: 80000-100000
  • Virtual Armor is raised from 60 to 80.
  • Hue is forced to default (0).
  • Body is re-rolled from {1433, 1431, 1248, 735}.
  • Name displays in a distinct red-orange hue (34).
  • The title is replaced with “<Map> Demigod” (for example “Felucca Demigod” or “Trammel Demigod”), or “Dungeon Demigod” if the boss has no map at spawn.

Skill ranges, resistances, fame, karma, AI type, and fight mode are unchanged from the base Overlord values.

In addition to all the Overlord drops above, a Demigod kill grants:

  • One Ember Crucible Of The Demigod (deed) dropped directly into the corpse.
  • One Petri Dish Enhancement Power dropped into the corpse.
  • Epic item odds are doubled: base 4% per qualifying looter, rising to 8% with the Double Epic Chance perk active and a further +1% with Better Loot active.
  • Rare pet drop: a separate 5% roll on top of the Demigod kill spawns a Ram of the Demigod at the boss's location, accompanied by the public emote “the demigod leaves behind a prized mount”.

The deed places into a house as a “Ember Crucible” addon (hue 2707). It tracks four working values – Ingot Score, Relic Score, Rough Score, and Charges – and requires 200.0 Blacksmith skill to operate. Material thresholds for a single crafting charge:

  • Ingot Score: 50,000
  • Relic Score: 50
  • Rough Score: 100

A charge produces hue-2707 Infernal Crucible jewelry (bracelet, ring, necklace, or earrings) with three randomly-selected skill bonuses drawn from a pool of 56 skills.

The Daily Task pool includes “Kill a Dungeon Overlord” (weight 1). Demigod kills also count toward this task.

Overlord skulls slot into either of two storage keys: the Pile of Overlord Skulls and the Pile of Overlord Skulls (Enhanced). Both keys provide a column for all 18 dungeon types. The standard Pile cannot be used from your pack – only from inside a house. The Enhanced version can be used both from your pack and from inside a house.

  • The dungeon type carried by a skull determines only which altar accepts it. It has no effect on the Overlord's stats, AI, body, or loot.
  • The Demigod promotion is a one-shot 5% roll at spawn time. Once an Overlord has been summoned, its Demigod status is fixed for that instance.
